I’ve been putting this off since the news of the flood on the 4th. Instead I spent the week watching the news and video news on Facebook. It was heartbreaking, but the amount of people who actually survived is astounding. The number of lost and those who will never be found is the heartbreaking part of it. The huge number of people who have turned out to help and are still there shows how good our nation still is.
I wrote in reply to a friend in Kerrville who is distraught at the loss which as she sees it was unnecessary. This is what she wrote:” I am hoping the people will go after the liberal Mayor, city council members and our liberal Kerrville judge. They have been so busy fighting against the people on the “right” after they have spent so much of our tax money for things not needed and for allowing new housing to be built when we don’t have the water to give these new neighborhoods to drink. MONEY is all these horrible people can think about! You may have seen our Mayor crying yesterday. I don’t know if his crying was his fear that he will be sued or for the victims. These people have had plenty of time to arrange for some kind of warning system for our river when it floods. I can certainly know what it’s like for your only child to be dead from cancer and therefore can identify with these poor people who drowned or who’s loved one(s) drowned during this awful flood. (We were here) when we had the big “killer” flood here in Kerrville in 1982. That flood drowned many here in town and killed many people. I have have no respect, whatsoever, for any of these liberals and have never voted for one! Now, all the money the City Council has spent along our river is completely gone down the river and killed so many innocent people! All the money these people (our mayor and city council) could have gone for a warning system on our river. The warning system should have been bought and installed many years ago, but didn’t, because the Kerrville elite were too busy buying other things. No one but these elites should be forced to pay for all this! I would not be surprised if our city will receive lots of lawsuits for the deaths of all these people! One whole family was drowned! I am so sorry to hear about all these children and their families. You’d think since this has happened once before we would have “the fix” in place! I continue to pray for all these people. I know the pain to lose a child.”
This is my reply to her: “We cannot help but be grieved by the extreme loss of life and it makes it worse when a good bit of it could have been avoided by sirens, or if the cry wolf effect wasn’t there. There were warnings of floods and heavy rain but as one of the residents said, “we get those all the time.” But the visitors don’t get them all the time and they should have had a chance to at least get out of their cabins and RVs. At least one of the children’s camps evacuated their kids in time. I spent most of last week watching the live feeds from SA and the reels on facebook. It is a bitter pill. It has happened many times before and will happen again and if the county and city aren’t ready there will be retributions. But that doesn’t save lives. Floods may be considered an act of God but God also provided a means of warning and it wasn’t used.” And that is how I feel about it.

The other big news of the last week was the Epstein controversy. I am taking a wait and see attitude about it. My hope is that a lot we don’t know is going on and to release a list or other records would interfere with the true scope of the investigation, or related investigations.
